Havana, May 28th, 2026. – In an interview with PBS News following the arrival of material aid from China, Cuba’s Deputy Foreign Minister Josefina Vidal Ferreiro firmly rejected U.S. pressure and reiterated the island’s commitment to defending its sovereignty.

In the spirit of goodwill, and of the close and smooth relations between the Cuban State and the Vatican— with which communication regarding the review and release processes of persons deprived of liberty has been historically maintained— the Government of Cuba has decided to release, in the coming days, 51 persons sentenced to prison.  All of them have served a significant part of their sentences and have observed good behavior in prison.
