UNESCO event on urban development opens in Cuba

The 9th International Meeting on Culture, Communication, Marketing and Community opened in the Cuban capital as a space to defend the value of culture in urban development and promote exchange among nations.

Under the motto “Transforming urban life at UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Thousand Cities, innovation and 2030 Agenda: Communication and ethics of diversity in post-pandemic cities,” the event promotes reflection on the contribution of marketing in the sociocultural projects of urban communities.

Havana, November 13, 2021.- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on the occasion of its 75th anniversary.

On behalf of the Cuban people and government, the President conveyed their appreciation to the organization.

Deeply moved, Dr. Maria Guadalupe Guzman said the prize awarded by UNESCO to her work is a recognition to Cuba and a lifetime devoted to science. The United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) reported that the Cuban expert in sciences and director of Research, Diagnose and Reference at the Pedro Kouri Tropical Medicine Institute (IPK) is one of the five awarded women by geographical regions.

Cuba's Ambassador to UNESCO Yahima Esquivel denounced at a UNESCO forum the obstacles posed in the fight against Covid-19 by the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against the country. The blockade is the fundamental impediment to the acquisition of medicines, health equipment, materials and supplies needed to fight against the pandemic, the diplomat noted on her speech at the Ethical Considerations of the Covid-19 Crisis from a Global Perspective event.
