Cuba Condemns Blockade and Energy Siege at the UN, Calls Them Collective Punishment

Cuba denounced before the Second Committee of the General Assembly of the United Nations that the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States has reached unprecedented levels, while the energy siege against the country qualifies as a collective punishment which intentionally hinders access to fuel and directly affects the living conditions of the Cuban people. Cuba´s Permanent Representative also denounced the intensification of extraterritorial measures and “so-called secondary” sanctions against companies, banks, and suppliers from third countries that maintain legitimate relations with Cuba.

Cuba condemns the use of hunger as a weapon of war and the impact of the US blockade on food
Cuba warned the UN Security Council of the worsening of global food crises as a result of conflicts, structural inequalities and an unjust international order, and denounced the direct impact of the intensification of the US blockade on the Cuban people’s access to food, fuel and other essential goods. During the high-level open debate entitled "Food under fire: the role of the Security Council in mitigating global and local food crises", the Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, warned that, a mere four years before the 2030 Agenda deadline, the world remains far from achieving the Sustainable Development Goal of Zero Hunger.

Cuba celebrates the 100th Anniversary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro in New York with a photo exhibition
The Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations opened a photographic exhibition dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, with moments from his historic visits to the United States during the first years of the Cuban Revolution. The commemoration was attended by Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina J. Mohammed, along with diplomats from different countries, UN officials and American friends of solidarity with Cuba.
