Cuba elected Vice-President of the Review Conference of the Biological Weapons Convention

Cuba was elected Vice-President, representing the Non-Aligned Movement, of the Ninth Review Conference of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Biological and Toxin Weapons and on their Destruction. It began today in Geneva and will be in session until December 16th.

Cuba ratifies commitment to a society without racism

The Cuban ambassador to the UN-Geneva, Juan Antonio Quintanilla, reiterated the country's commitment to the fight against racism and denounced the structural presence of racism in developed capitalist nations. Speaking in a general debate on the subject as part of the 51st session of the UN Human Rights Council, Quintanilla highlighted that Cuba is enacting its National Program against Racism and Racial Discrimination, approved in 2019. “Its implementation has made it possible to identify inequity gaps and direct work towards the elimination of vestiges of discrimination,” he stressed.

Cuba defended at the UN Human Rights Council the inclusive access to information and communication technologies to eliminate the digital divide that impacts the field of education. We agree that it is important to reduce the digital divide and the impediments to access technology. However, this principle should not be restricted to families and communities within countries; but also between countries, Mirthia Julia Brossard said in the continuation of the debates of the 50th session of the body based in this Swiss city.
