Cuban Deputy Prime Minister discusses with FAO Director-General

Havana, July 29, 2025.- The Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba, Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca, held a meeting in Addis Ababa with the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization, Qu Dongyu.

Tapia Fonseca expressed gratitude for the long-standing collaboration between the FAO and the Antillean island in key areas such as food security, sustainable agriculture, and capacity-building.

Cuba recognized the importance of the systematic bi-regional dialogue between CELAC and the European Union on drug policies, which contributes to a comprehensive approach to this issue between the two regions. This was stated by Viceminister of Justice Pilar Alicia Varona Estrada on the occasion of the 25th High-Level Meeting of the Coordination and Cooperation Mechanism on Drugs (CELAC-EU), held in Warsaw, Poland.

The Regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Susana Sottoli praised on Wednesday the support given to this agency by the Cuban Government. On the 50th anniversary of relations between Cuba and the UNFPA, the head further expressed her gratitude for the understanding and acceptance given by Cuban institutions and organizations, as the Fund “works with them shoulder to shoulder, day after day.”
