Cuban parliamentary leader: journey to Europe was “fruitful”

Brussels, June 25,2022.- The secretary of the National Assembly of Cuba and secretary of the Council of State, Homero Acosta, described as "fruitful" the visit of a delegation to institutions of European countries, with which they strengthened parliamentary ties and discussed cooperation spaces.

Activities in the European Parliament, the Belgian Chamber of Representatives, the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies and the French Senate, among others, were part of the program for the duration of last week, and included meetings with the solidarity movement and with Cuban residents.

“We concluded a fruitful work visit, which allowed us to exchange criteria with various political forces, some with which we do not agree on all issues, always in a climate of receptivity and understanding,” Acosta told Prensa Latina.

According to the official, the delegation exposed the truth about Cuba, the daily life of its inhabitants and the challenges for socioeconomic development. “The condemnation of the US blockade was a recurring theme in our meetings, a policy that interlocutors considered anachronistic and contrary to International Law, and advocated its elimination,” he stressed.

During their time in France, Belgium, the European Parliament and Luxembourg, the visitors also shared aspects of Cuba’s actions in the parliamentary, economic and social fields, as well as the legislative calendar derived from the Constitution endorsed in 2019 by Cubans in a referendum.

“In general, we took important steps and explored future actions to strengthen ties between our peoples, governments and parliaments,” in the words of Acosta, who was accompanied by deputies Estela Cristina Luna and Luis Morlote, officials and diplomats.
