Cuba reaffirms its commitment to the bi-regional dialogue between CELAC and EU on drug policy

Warsaw, May 8, 2025.Cuba recognized the importance of the systematic bi-regional dialogue between CELAC and the European Union on drug policies, which contributes to a comprehensive approach to this issue between the two regions. This was stated by Viceminister of Justice Pilar Alicia Varona Estrada on the occasion of the 25th High-Level Meeting of the Coordination and Cooperation Mechanism on Drugs (CELAC-EU), held in Warsaw, Poland.

Taking into consideration Cuba's experience in its fight against drugs, based on the principle of zero tolerance, the Caribbean nation's willingness to contribute to addressing the global problem and to bi-regional cooperation in this regard was reaffirmed. During the meeting, the implementation of the La Paz Declaration was reviewed, and the short-term objectives on which the Mechanism will work until the next high-level meeting were outlined.

The Cuban delegation to the High-Level Meeting of the CELAC-EU Coordination and Cooperation Mechanism on Drugs also included Dennis Cásares Benítez, Counselor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Bryan Gual Navarrete, First Secretary of the Cuban Mission in Brussels. The next High-Level Meeting will take place in the Dominican Republic in 2026.
