
Ever since the first COVID-19 cases were diagnosed in Cuba, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has helped the country’s efforts to keep in place services deemed essential to children, teenagers and pregnant women with foods, syringes, means of protection, refrigerators and vital equipment such as an ambulance, an oxygen plant and high precision ultrasound equipment.
The President of the Republic of Finland, His Excellency Mr. Sauli Niinistö, received today the Credentials of Beatriz Parra González, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba. Due to the coronavirus situation, the credentials of ambassadors are, for the time being, received by written procedure.
Ambassador Pedro L. Pedroso Cuesta, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, was elected today as Vice-chair of the Special Committee on Decolonization. At the installation ceremony, attended by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Pedroso Cuesta expressed his gratitude for the confidence placed in Cuba, which he represents. He stressed, on behalf of Cuba, that they will not relent in their efforts to advance decolonization and to banish from international relations the practices of colonialism that still persist.
